The original Half-Life stayed in the game guide for longer than most Chinese food stays in my refrigerator, which is to say about nine months. Why did we keep recommending it for so long? Because it was an absolutely amazing game that yanked you out of your seat and drew you along like with its fast action and enthralling plot. Well, it's time to go back to Black Mesa. This time around you're a Marine, Corporal Adrian Sheppard, sent to silence Gordon Freeman and the other Black Mesa scientists. If you want more Half-Life, and we're pretty sure you do, Half-Life: Opposing Force was made just to please you and it lives up to the high standards set by its predecessor.

We fell in love with this game the moment we laid our hands on a Beta. Voxel landscapes mixed with a feature-rich software 3D engine makes Appeal's Outcast a beautiful sight. Complex yet manageable puzzles, excellent dialogue, and a vast plot keep us glued to the machine. It's been recently released in Europe and should be in the US soon. You can take our copy of Outcast away when you pry it from our cold dead fingers.

Tribes has been on our recommended list for several months now. "Why?" you ask? Simply because it is the best Internet game created so far. In no other game can you run out of your base, fly a kilometer to the enemy stronghold, sneak in, grab the flag, and fly the kilometer back home with fifteen enemy players on your tail. And at its current $20 bargain bin price, it's an incredible value as well. Superb 3D engine, great weapons and good interface, what more could you want? Dynamix's Tribes has been a firm favorite with SE and we've been playing it long before its release via the Beta program. And with the recent cancellation of Tribes Extreme, the singe-player version, it will have to hold you over till Tribes 2 arrives sometime in 2000.

Hop into your Pod Racer and take off at mach 1. Rocket down canyon floors at speeds far too ludicrous for Dark Helmet. This blisteringly fun arcade style racing game will leave your cheeks flapping against your ears from the intense acceleration. You can't go wrong with Lucas Arts' Star Wars Episode 1: Racer.
We would also like to recommend it as a great game to give as a gift this holiday season. It's a fun game for all sorts of people and is perfectly suited for all kids, big and small.
