Lots to talk about here, and that's a good thing….
First, you'll notice that the FSB support offers something that was started with the introduction of the Abit BH6 mainboard a few months ago, but is still very rare today: A 124MHz FSB option.
Overclockers love to play around, and that's most likely all anyone will ever do with the 124MHz FSB since it's tough to be able to get any CPU to run at that speed due to the brutal Intel clock locking that's been running rampant lately. But it's still nice to know that if you get the itch to, as Scotty used to say, "Give 'er more powur", you'll be able to do so with the SY-6BA+.
Other FSBs that are supported are the traditional 66, 75, 83, 100, 112, and 133MHz levels.
Another feature that we're seeing more of lately, and in the SY-6BA+, is support for a massive 1GB of main system ram. We know that it's unlikely that anyone will ever explore the upper reaches of that figure, but the way ram prices have fallen the last eight months, you never know….Kinda like that old Karen Carpenter joke where the punchline is "You can never be too rich or too thin", with PCs the punchline would be "You can never be too rich, or have too much ram." It's a reach I know, but anyone above the age of 25 will get it…maybe….
Here's a bonus feature not listed above: We were pleased to see the quickly becoming standard of including hardware temperature monitoring abilities on mainboards to be present within the SY-6BA+'s repertoire. The usual voltage, system and CPU temps, and Fan RPMs can be seen within the SY-6BA+'s BIOS, which is again yet another boon for the overclocker.
Finally, putting the icing on the cake, the joy of five PCI slots can't be ignored and the SY-6BA+ again delivers the goods with a 2/5/1 configuration.
So far so good…..
