Most of us know Matrox for the superb visual quality of their graphics cards. Some may think that Matrox's Marvel G200-TV, the TV and video digitizing enabled predecessor to the G400, is Matrox's only video editing card. However, Matrox also makes high-quality professional video digitizing and editing cards that cost thousands of dollars.

Matrox has used their expertise and experience in digital video to make their Marvel G400-TV, a G400 with 16MB of RAM that has some serious video editing and digitizing hardware capabilities as well as a TV tuner and TV out. We put the card through its paces, testing its video features in addition to the normal gaming features to see how it stacks up. We also tested a beta version of Matrox's new TurboGL, their PIII- and Athlon-optimized mini-OpenGL driver, to see what it does to the G400's historically slow OpenGL performance.
