The Guillemot Maxi Gamer Cougar, with its low price and TNT2 features, is aimed straight at those looking for great 2D/3D performance at a low price. To keep the price down, Guillemot cut out the DVD software (there are plenty of free DVD software downloads). They have not decided yet what else if anything will be bundled. Normally for price conscious markets, Guillemot will include a few game demos to play around with on your new card but nothing else, and we have an early spec sheet for the Cougar that says just that. The real feature of the Guillemot Maxi Gamer Cougar is its TNT2 M64 core. It is a fully capable TNT2 core, with all the bells and whistles that NVIDIA has used to capture so much market share except for the memory bus width. High-quality 32bit rendering, AGP 2x/4x, blazing speed, and so on. They're all features you're familiar with and you can see them listed above. It even has the 150MHz memory clock and 125MHz core clock of the full TNT2. Essentially, the TNT2 M64 is a TNT2, the only difference being the memory bus width. So with this in mind, we look at the performance with a 500MHz Pentium III.
Quake 2 timedemo was run with all options set to their defaults except for 16 bit textures, low quality sound, and v-sync disabled. Tests were run three times and the scores were averaged.
