Outputting your Voodoo3 3500 video to your TV is a bit more problematic. I was experimenting with the functionality and found that while it will work properly for most applications and games, there are still issues with screen placement when displaying certain resolutions. Disconnecting your monitor and using your TV as the primary output device is also not recommended as I had an unsatisfactory hit-or-miss ratio with getting the screen to display. When the TV-out works, it works very well and I did have some success watching DVD movies and other movie file formats. Since the Brooktree chip has been used successfully with other cards, I'm hoping that 3dfx improves the Voodoo3 3500 drivers and works out some of the TV-out problems.

In addition to the Visual Reality TV/FM software, 3dfx has included some other utilities in their excellent software bundle. Ulead VideoStudio is a very interesting program that gives you quite a bit of video editing power in a very easy to use package. The software allows video and still capture from the available V3 3500 inputs, or you can just edit existing video and pictures. Where the program really gets interesting is that it allows you to splice multiple video clips together, add voices and music to the original (try dubbing a bad movie for fun), and my personal favorite, special effects and transitions. Experimenting with the software, I recorded a couple of commercials, then spliced pieces together, complete with very cool scene transitions like you see in movies and TV. The entire editing process takes place on a storyboard-type layout, making scenes, transitions and images extremely easy to move and manipulate. While it's certainly not the most technical video editing software, Ulead VideoStudio has just about everything the home user would want, and might even satisfy quite a few of the techies out there as well.

A copy of Intervideo WinDVD is also included in the software bundle and I was very impressed with both the software's functionality and the DVD performance of the V3 3500. I've tested out the DVD performance of both the Voodoo3 3500 and the Xentor 32, and both have provided excellent, and very similar, DVD output. WinDVD functionality is easily on par with the XingDVD software and overall DVD playback is excellent. Other software included in the bundle are Microsoft Netshow, Ligos GoMotion Codec, Microsoft NetMeeting, VDONet, VDOPhone, and Microsoft Explorer 4.0.
