Besides offering better control over mouse movement, the Intellimouse Explorer also has other noticeable traits. Its ergonomic design feels comfortable to use, though you may have trouble if your hands are on the small side - this is a big mouse. The design is also pretty nice to look at, with a darkish grey metallic color (although the mouse is of course plastic) and a red taillight indicating that it's "IntelliEye" equipped.

The Intellimouse Explorer
|
The Intellimouse Explorer also features a total of five buttons: the two regular ones, the now standard wheel sitting between these two which also serves as a third button, and there are two more buttons positioned where you usually rest your thumb. These add additional functionality in many applications and games. For Windows these are configured for "Back" & "Forward" in your web browser as standard but can be configured to execute just about any application and perform a number of duties such as opening the Windows Explorer or toggling the desktop. These controls and plenty of other control features such as mouse acceleration and sensitivity can be configured using the accompanying IntelliPoint software. The IntelliPoint software is easy to use and quite powerful but won't win any prices.
And they were right! As the Intellimouse is free from moving parts there's nothing that will need any type of cleaning and the mouse's performance won't degrade over time either. No more mouse cleaning (unless you tend to mouse while eating cheesy poofs-ED).
