The last time semiconductor manufacturer Intel released a new AGP core logic chipset for use on PC mainboards was in April of 1998.

Since then, we've seen mainboard manufacturers design and implement new technology on their 440BX chipset-based product lines, with the goal being to produce a mainboard that offers enough of an improvement to coerce buyers into upgrading to the new option.

Today we're taking a look at the newest mainboard from Taiwanese manufacturer Gigabyte, the GA-BX2000. This board truly demonstrates just how desperate marketing and sales driven mainboard companies have become in the quest to stand out when compared to their competitors.

Read on friends, and don't say we didn't warn you….

One glance at the BX-2000's specification sheet is all it takes to reaffirm the knowledge that mainboard vendors have pretty much maximized the total potential of the 440BX chipset.

From multiple front side bus settings to support for up to 1GB of DRAM, the newer 440BX boards from various manufacturers are all starting to walk and talk in the same general way.
