Pulling off power slides shouldn't involve timely pressing of keyboard keys and skillfully pulling off the careful acceleration necessary in F1 games just can't be done quite as well with a mere joystick. No, for driving games, there really is only one device that can satisfy the needs of the true enthusiast (you'll never guess); a steering wheel and a set of foot pedals. If you've come to the conclusion that your obsession with driving games is slowly turning you into one such true driving game enthusiast, you might want to take a look at the Logitech Formula Force GP. Or rather, you might want to read this review where I take a look at the Formula Force GP to help you decide if it's worth shelling out for.
For a reasonable 100 of your American dollars (if that seems far from reasonable remember that steering wheels tend to cost a pretty penny on the whole) what you get is a foot pedal unit, the rather sleek and sexy looking wheel itself and a copy of Sports Car GT. The whole unit is moulded black plastic, bar the odd logo and of course the lovely red rubber grips. Not only does it look lovely but wrap your hands around the wheel and you'll quickly come to the conclusion that it's very comfortable indeed, something that doesn't change after you've done a few laps in whatever racing game you fancy. Your thumbs sit nicely in the indents you can see in the photo while still letting you easily access the four thumb buttons, and behind the wheel it curves inwards nicely so your fingers can curl in there while you're gripping the wheel, while the two steering column mounted flat triggers for changing gears are again easy to reach. Whoever's been doing their ergonomics homework at Logitech deserves an almighty pat on the back and a pay rise along with it.
