Of course, since this is Sharky Games, you'll want to know how it works with, well, games. The answer is – better than the Force Feedback mouse. Yes, compared to the Force Feedback mouse that was targeted at gamers, the iFeel, which Logitech are not targeting at gamers, is actually cooler to use in games. There's no chunky base unit to contend with and since the mouse is standalone, it doesn't get moved around much at all. I actually plugged in two mice at one point and moved around the non-iFeel mouse over some icons to see if the iFeel vibrations moved it across the mouse mat at all, and it didn't even budge an inch.
The best-known game to have support for the Force Feedback mouse (and as a result the iFeel) is Soldier Of Fortune. After a quick go at using the iFeel on the desktop I reinstalled Soldier of Fortune and donned the guise of John Mullins once more for the sake of the review (what a hard life I lead). First up, let me say that not once was my aim put off, no matter how strong the mouse shook to simulate gunfire. It had the same effect as a Force Feedback joystick, that of immersing you in the title a little more, going a little further in convincing you that you are the guy on screen packing the killer arsenal and putting it to good use. Besides that, having the mouse simulate the feel of firing a machine gun is almost too satisfying to be true.
Despite how surprisingly cool the technology is to use, there are very few games that support the Immersion technology that Logitech uses to make the iFeel do its thing, with only Heavy Gear 2, Nocturne and Soldier of Fortune standing out from a sparse crowd of nine games overall that use the technology. So, unless you're a big fan of any of those games there isn't much point to spending the extra dough on an iFeel rather than a regular Logitech Optical Mouse for the time being. If you're into Force Feedback and still play any of those games I mentioned though, you'll love the iFeel. The Immersion Desktop technology is also pretty interesting and actually useful for regular mousing, but it again isn't really cool or useful enough to warrant shelling out the extra money for the iFeel over the regular Optical Mice.
