We threw Descent III at the Xtreme, using our own 'in-house' Monster demo to perform a few benchmarks. Although far from being 'blazing quick', the Xtreme did the 'job' required adequately. Expendable faired better (it's not quite as complex a game as Descent III) as frame rates at 1024x768x32 were rock solid at the 30fps mark. 3DMark also performed in the same ballpark.

You'll notice that we used TWO different settings when running our Quake III: Arena Test benchmarks. To give you an idea of EXACTLY what the 'NORMAL' and 'HIGH QUALITY' settings are, we simply chose 'NORMAL' and 'HIGH QUALITY' from the menu before running our timedemos. The only changes made were to the color depths and resolution- every other setting remained at id Software's 'default' setting for 'Normal' & 'High Quality'. All tests were run a total of four times with the results averaged to determine final score. VSync was OFF for all video tests, allowing maximum frame rate performance. The test system used for conducting the tests is as follows:

Pentium III 500MHz
A-Bit BX6 2.0 Mainboard (Slot-1 - Intel 440BX)
128MB PC-100 Memory
Diamond Stealth III S540 Xtreme 32MB AGP 2D/3D Accelerator
Diamond Stealth III S540 32MB AGP 2D/3D Accelerator
Quantum Fireball 10.2 GB HD
Diamond Monster Sound MX300 3D PCI Sound Card
Kenwood 52X Multi-Beam IDE CD-ROM
Win98SE
