We looked at two 128MB HSDRAM DIMM prototypes and tested them using a mainboard that supports both higher front side bus clock speeds as well as a 1/4 PCI clock divider at those speeds: the Abit BX2 R2.

By pushing the HSDRAM DIMMS to their maximum levels of performance, we were able to get a good idea as to the validity of the claims being made by EMS regarding the HSDRAM's "fastest SDRAM on Earth" labeling.

Before we plunge into the test results, here's a list of the major features that the EMS HSDRAM offers versus standard PC-100 SDRAM:

Part Number	Capacity	Organization
SM6408DT-7.5	64 MB 8Mx64
SM12808DT-7.5	128 MB 16Mx64
  • Industry Standard PC-133 SDRAM DIMM, 7.5ns
  • 4.6ns Clock Access Time
  • Latency (3:2:2) @ 133 MHz
  • CAS Latency = 3
  • RAS to CAS Delay = 2
  • Precharge delay = 2
  • 6-Layer PCB Construction
  • Utilized 64Mbit Enhanced Memory Systems Chips
