Installation was as with most hardware today effortless and driver installation wasn't exactly troublesome. Hercules' drivers were as usual tweaked to the max and Hercules Touch tools offer a few neat features such as Color compensation and monitor positioning, nice.

2D performance on the Terminator 2x/i isn't noticeably different from other Intel740-based solutions but what would one expect- this is a bog-standard Intel740 entry level 2D/3D graphics card after all? The Terminator 2x/i can't even begin to compare to the impressive 2D performance offered by Matrox's new G200 boards, still it's 'good enough' for the average user or even for the part-time Duke Nukem 3D player- and no we won't bore you with MS Office shenanigans here. This IS a gaming site after all! So in DirectDraw titles, the 2x/i does a fairly good job moving sprites here and there but doesn't really race around like a rabbit full of a crate of Mountain Dew. The same goes for DOS games and applications - it offers what you need but not much more.

As far as resolutions go the 8Mb board offers everything from 640 x 480 to 1600 x 1200 in 8bit, 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024 in 16bit and 640 x 480 to 1024 x 768 in 24bit. Not too shabby. But with 8Mb on board one would have expected support for higher bit depths at 1280 x 1024 and 1600 x 1200. The 230Mhz RAMDAC found on the 2x/i offers stable refresh rates up to 1600 x 1200 which is nice, but as I said it only does 256 colors at that resolution which rules it out for most users (even if your monitor can handle it). And I'm a flash harry with a 19 incher' and 256 colors just isn't on my agenda.
