So unfortunately the scores in Quake2 won't impress the pants off of you but then again with only single TMU the first line of Banshee products wasn't ever going to. Nevertheless the scores weren't too bad- of course slightly lower than a single Voodoo2. Just to show you how badly the lack of a TMU effects Quake2, I stacked up a Voodoo Banshee up against a Voodoo2 and then two Voodoo2's in SLI. At 640x480 and 800x600 the single Voodoo2 set up beat Diamond's Voodoo Banshee by some 20 frames per second, which is very significant. It really does show that if you're a die-hard Quaker, you should stick to what Auntie Sharky knows best- the Voodoo2. There is however an advantage of owning a Voodoo Banshee over a single and more expensive Voodoo2. The Voodoo Banshee is capable of going to 1024x768, which is perfect for sniping, whilst a single Voodoo2 hits its ceiling at 800x600. Although the real benefit of sniping from a distance becomes apparent when playing in multiplayer, at the time of this article unfortunately Diamond's Banshee was just not getting anything more than 27.6 frames per second in 1024x768, which is barely fast enough for single player games let alone multiplayer games. I'm optimistic that playing at 1024x768 in multiplayer might well be possible with Diamond's Voodoo Banshee, if as promised a little more driver tweaking is done and indeed the clock speed is raised some 25%.
