Intel's Mobile Value segments also have a few new additions to this latest roadmap. Firstly, you can expect to see the 466MHz Celeron (1.9volts and .25micron) in September of this year. The 500MHz Celeron's (but now with Streaming SIMD Extensions) have been introduced on the roadmap for Q1 of next year. A 5xx (we guess it's a 533Mhz part) part has also been added for release in Q2 of 2000. Intel stresses that 'factory improvements' have enabled this prediction for higher speed Celeron's. For a start the thermal design power is now projected at around 15watts. By the year 2000, Celeron's (with streaming SIMD extensions) will be manufactured with a .18micron process allowing for lower thermal designs, whilst at the same time increasing performance.

The biggest impact though has been in terms of Intel's 'pricing segmentation' for the Value PC. There are still three segments but the prices themselves have dropped to reflect falling prices of mobiles in general. You'll be able to buy a Celeon based mobile PC from $1, 000 to $1, 800. With prices this low, mobile's should become much more accessible to the mass market (there's also AMD K6-2's to choose from). Intel feels that the transition value to component based Celeron processors and the utilization of the Intel 440 MX chipset (Banister) are going to drive prices down to such an affordable level. Even with the 440ZX chipset, you'll still be able to buy a low-cost AGP platform mobile PC from the Value Segment.
