Those of you looking to push your FSB (front side bus) that bit further will be happy to know that 600MHz/133MHz FSB & 633MHz/133MHz FSB versions will see the light of day a little later on in September to coincide with the launch of the 810e, 820 and 840 chipsets.

For your amusement, we've done up a few charts to sum up what's what (and don't ask, they are Y2K compliant) in the usual Intel-style segmentation according to price/performance/sector.

Let's kick off with the high-end of the consumer market (the good games will be played out on these rigs):

Performance 1
Price Range: >$2000
CPU: Bus Speed; Motherboard Chipset by Quarter:

  • Q3 1999: Pentium III 550/600MHz; 100MHz FSB; 440BX/ZX 66/100MHz FSB & introduction of 810e
  • Q4 1999: Pentium III 600MHz; 100/133MHz FSB; Intel 810e 100/133MHz FSB & Intel 820 introduced
  • Q1 2000: Pentium III 667MHz; 133MHz FSB; Intel 820 133MHz FSB & 810e 133/100MHz FSB
  • Q2 2000: Pentium III 733MHz; 133MHz FSB; Intel 820/810e & Solano 133MHz FSB introduced
Note: - Coppermine .18 micron Pentium III introduced in November (Q4 1999).
