- Three words: Star Trek license
- Poor implementation of the Unreal engine
- Repetitive enemies
- Slow gameplay
Klingon Honor Guard was another title that was widely anticipated, as it appealed to two distinct crowds. Star Trek fans were obviously looking forward to doling out mayhem Klingon style, while hard core gamers were waiting on the first third party game to utilize the Unreal engine.
We just wanted to get our hands on another shooter.
Klingon Honor Guard starts off weak in the design department, but progressively gets better. Levels are initially bland and don't do the Unreal engine's capabilities any justice. Later levels, however, show off better design elements and feature locales made famous by several of the Star Trek movies and TV episodes. Having the ability to wield a variety of Klingon weapons no doubt pleased many fans of the series as well.
In the end however, Klingon Honor Guard is a mediocre first person shooter made attractive by its Star Trek license. For their first try at the genre, however, Microprose could have done a lot worse.
