The graphics engine is slightly behind the curve, which is odd considering that this beast requires a minimum 300mhz processor or more, depending on your video card, and that may be simply because the game isn't done yet. Graphics are slow and feature a wide range of artifacting on most cards, even with the current drivers, which this game doesn't just demand, it whines for. I experienced all kinds of hiccups on an AMD 1 gig with a Voodoo 5500 and 256MB of RAM, and that just isn't right. Other users are experiencing crashes and lockups as well.
The tutorial is bland as dishwater but does a good job immersing the newbie into the gameplay and with that comes fair warning: this is a game for the hardcore. It is very frustrating to new players, even gamers used to 3D shooters, dealing with the jump jet bouncing around and the wide, wide, WIDE open spaces. But learning the game has value. The new vehicles, including this time tanks, bombers and fighters, are a blast to play with, a brilliant addition to a tired genre. Again you can commandeer devastating turrets and snipe enemies from what feels like miles away. And again the close up corridor fights are a refreshing thrill after the agoraphobia takes hold.
Gameplay types include deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, hold, and rabbit. Hold is your basic defend the base game and rabbit is a CTF variant where the guy with the flag becomes everyone's target du jour.
