The music of AvP is dark and ominous, exactly what the game demands. It's a strange mix of classical instruments, synth sounds, and ambient noises. We dig the originality. It's the kind of music you hear in the background during scary movie scenes. We like it! It also happens to come on it's own Redbook audio CD, so you can play the music in your normal stereo. It's not a sit down and listen soundtrack, but it will be great for the neighborhood haunted house come Halloween.
Overall, AvP has dark, powerful, varied, and incredibly intense game play. It's so intense that we actually had a problem sticking with it at times. It made us want to take a break. AvP is a powerful gaming experience, so powerful that it is not for everyone. In practice, you hunt, stalk, hide, kill, sneak, and think. It's not just another Quake clone. You have to use your brain and switch tactics often or you'll be lunch for an Alien, or a head on a Predator's wall. The amazing thing about AvP's game play is how the three different species have three very different methods of play.
As a Colonial Marine, you are the weakest species, but what you lack in physical abilities, you make up in big guns and a motion detector. Overall game play is like most FPS. You usually have the tactics of running and hiding. Rarely can you be the hunter. You'll get killed too fast.
