As mentioned previously, playing Guybrush as an utter kleptomaniac is essential and players must move around to every possible location, talk to every possible character and pick up every possible item. Saving often is also highly recommended, as it is easy to play something out of order, miss a crucial piece of the puzzle and get stuck time and time again. But the interface in Escape From Monkey Island is easy enough to use that even those with limited experience in adventure games will be able to figure out the nuances in no time. One point of complaint is that timing can be the most frustrating aspect of this title, and in some ways the genre as a whole, as if you are off even slightly you may have to try and try again until everything is perfect!
There are obviously going to be those who don't get the game's twisted humor and honestly Escape From Monkey Island is probably best described as being for an acquired taste. The humor, which is full of in-jokes, pop culture references and even a bit of toilet humor, may even confuse or offend some – but if you can stick through it, the payoff and game is quite rewarding. This is simply a love-it or hate-it kind of game, where solving each little puzzle is extremely rewarding. If you are looking to hack and slash through and adventure in an evening or two, then this simply isn't going to be your kind of thing.
But if you want the kind of game that requires hours of dedication, offers tons of puzzles and twists; not to mention some of the most bizarre experiences in any adventure, then Escape From Monkey Island is probably going to be keeping you up very late for a very long time! Just be prepared to be confused, frustrated, rewarded and even provided with loads of humor as this new adventure awaits!
