What is the lowdown on this Neural Network AI stuff? Did you plug a programmer directly into the machine or what? How fast do the other cars "learn" the track? Do they start out really stupid? (Any funny stories here?)

Neural Net AI is not as complex as it seems - peoples perceptions of neural nets is computers with Austrian accents and heavy weaponry acting like humans and taking over the world! when the sad reality is that its not a million miles away from standard AI programming - its just generally a longer / more complex process, we are using relatively simple routines to achieve our goal. I haven't made the programmers get neural shunts grafted to the back of their necks just yet ;-) (NHS waiting list being what it is) Rather than take the easy option and just get the cars to follow splines and be really, really clever, never making mistakes that players do we decided that in Midnight GT the cars should if possible react when driving as much as possible like the real thing (emulating what a player would do in any given situation) . The opponent cars do start out relatively stupid compared to the player, but the law of averages means that they should learn the track, it just a question of time, the process of 'training' can be laborious and pretty boring, but the end result should be worth it.
Rage Software is well known for taking advantage of new graphics technology, what goodies do you have in store for us on that account? (DirectX7, Voodoo3, PVR Series2, Dreamcast, etc.)

Among other features, Midnight GT is fully DX6 and DX6 D3D optimized now, as soon as DX7 SDK's start appearing (if before the launch of the game) then we will naturally support anything new we can (e.g. hardware transform and light etc).

Currently almost all DX6 D3D compliant cards are supported.

Midnight GT will support 16, 24 & 32bit colour depth. In game texture quality up to 512x512, as well as screen resolutions up to and beyond 1900 x 1200. 1000+ poly player cars. On-Car realistic specular lighting / environment mapping, lots of real time lights (as many as we can - around 300 or so I think).

& LOTS MORE !!!!!!
