Regular Sharky Extreme readers will already know that on our UK tour last month, we spent the best part of two days up at Rage Software's Liverpool HQ. In the second installment of our report, we've decided to unleash the first ever eye candy showing of Rage's 'soon to be announced' Dispatched demo/game. We say 'soon to be announced' because the Dispatched demo is set to debut to the tune of Intel's Pentium III (otherwise known as Katmai) launch later this month. This isn't the first time Rage Software has earned the rights to show off Intel hardware. In fact, Incoming was used quite effectively for that purpose at E3 '97.

The demo itself resembles the opening sequence for the new Star Wars trailer and meshes in an homage to the 'Return of the Jedi' speeder-bike scene, as you ride around shooting enemies on sight. The impressive 3D engine itself was just as capable of rendering indoor tunnel scenes as rendering outdoor environments. With the Katmai instructions enabled, the special effects are nothing short of 'snazzy'. The lens flare, smoke and particle lighting effects (dishing out red and green colored smoke) were amongst the best we'd ever seen.
