Everyone that loved pod is going to have a soft spot for Mad Trax. Developed by Rayland Studios, this futuristic racer sports a powerful 3D engine capable of producing some of the best looking graphics seen to date in a racing game, loads of tracks and cars and a realistic physics engine and more. Mad Trax is an arcade-style racer at heart, where you have to pick up power-ups and weapons during the race, in order to maximize your performance on the track as well as make life tough for your opponents.

The visuals in Mad Trax are quite something, especially the horizon effect where the scenery fades out gradually as with fogging just that there is no fog to speak of (have a peek at the shots later in this piece to see what we're talking about). Very impressive. The cars are neatly modeled and look, well, futuristic. And the tracks are detailed as well with solid looking scenery and great colorful textures and of course they're crowded with lights emitting subtle lens flare effects to make things look extra sexy. To accomplish these state of the art visuals Mad Trax requires either a capable Direct3D accelerator or a 3Dfx based accelerator (there's a native GLIDE version) and a halfway decent CPU in your system.

The game features a total of 20 different tracks which range from futuristic cityscapes to deserts and wastelands and a total of eight different cars for you to wreak havoc in. Rayland also promises additional cars and tracks a la pod from their web site when the game has been released just to keep you busy. There will also be a bunch of different ways to play the game, time attack, single race, league, multi-player (duel mode) and more. Mad Trax should currently be available in Europe anytime in the near future and very soon in the US if all goes according to plans. Now for the shots:
