Nope- no fancy pants introduction is needed here. RoboRumble is quite simply being touted as a no-nonsense real-time strategy affair. "Oh, like the RTS genre really needs more titles", you might sardonically say? Well you'd be sort of on the ball. Total Annihilation and Command & Conquer after all still rule right? Right but the only thing is, sprites and 2D mapped terrains just don't cut the mustard anymore. 3D engines and 3D acceleration have become as fashionable as DKNY and Hipsters. And the common consensus within the real-time strategy fan club is that it's time to get trendy and with the program. Thus RoboRumble has been coded from the ground up with a 3D engine.
RoboRumble's 3D engine should appear pretty sophisticated for any bread and butter real-time strategy gamer. It's capable in all the most popular departments as you will see from the twelve new ensuing in-game screen shots. You want real-time lighting and shadow effects? RoboRumble will deliver them. So, you might want some transparencies and particle based explosions (come on we know you live for them!)? Again, RoboRumble's 3D engine will not even break into a sweat when rendering them as battlefield terrains morph and change during the action. For example, nitrogrenades can be used to freeze water. Better still, players will be able to use nuclear weapons that 'change' the terrain. When we say 'change' we're not talking about a quick demolition job either, we're talking huge bloody craters. There now, that should put a smile on any real-time strategist's face.
With RoboRumble's solid 3D engine plus bread and butter style real-time strategy gameplay in tact, this leads us on to a customary B-Movie style story. Well it's not as cheesy as a majority of stories found in past and present real-time strategy games, but it does involve Mars, a big weapon, and some Robots. Other than that it's set in the future (well it does have Robots). But for those of you that need to know who's who and what's what in RoboRumble, we'll give you a brief synopsis (turn the page).
