Red Storm is taking a leap from the trenches of squad warfare to the reaches of space. We knew about Red Storm's other large-scale space strategy game, Vanguard, but Bang! Gunship Elite was a surprise. This is a space fighter game in the tradition of Wing Commander and Interceptor. The game's basic mechanics don't seem like anything new; we've seen wide varieties of ships and weapons, and battles against alien races before. But as a contemporary spin on the milieu, Rayland is bringing some welcome updates. The graphics engine will support 1600x1200 or more, depending on user hardware. There will also be more than thirty minutes of video sequences.

Single player (19 missions) and multiplay (LAN, Internet) modes are supported, and frame rates we saw at E3 looked very high. Bang! Gunship Elite has tough competition in StarLancer and Independence War 2, but space fighter sims seem to be a rejuvenated market in PC games.
