Here’s an idea: to make a Star Trek computer game not suck, make it a game based on the worst of the Star Trek television series and it will look good in comparison. Here’s a better idea: make the game based on id’s proven Quake III engine, and hire a proven development team like Raven Software. Raven showed Elite Force off at the last two E3 shows, and they’re hoping it will be one of the few Trek games to shake the curse of the Trek license. This first-person shooter is going to pit players against the indomitable Borg, and will include some puzzle solving and story telling along the way.
Sounds good, but will Paramount allow Borg and Starfleet characters to explode into gibs? Will the gibs be in Paramount approved colors and sizes? If you port your Starfleet uniformed character into a Quake III deathmatch game, will everybody in the game get a mad-on for you, or will you win because they’ll be paralyzed with laughter? Find out this summer.
