Hasbro has pulled the plug on its Tank Platoon! game due to the poor performance and reception that its really freaking awful Gunship! game received from people who like good games.
According to a Hasbro press release: "What we learned from our recent release of Gunship!, is that we're challenged to attract the hard core fans and, at the same time, the more casual gamers". Meaning that both hardcore and casual gamers don't generally run out and buy games that play like crap. They even called it "Gunship!", which they probably thought would attract hardcore gamers but subtly added the "!" to attract easily distracted mainstream gamers. The software itself ruined this brilliant strategy, however.
Hasbro commented that they doubted the exclamation point would help a bad game called Tank Platoon, so they scrapped it and went back to work on Frogger 2.
Windows 2000 isn't meant to be a gaming system, Microsoft keeps saying that, but that doesn't mean gamers and manufacturers should stop trying to make their products work on the sure to be prolific OS. Chipset manufacturer ATI recently disappointed fans of their Rage Fury Maxx card by promising one thing, and then not delivering it.
"Dear Customer,
You have previously contacted our Microsoft* Windows* 2000 feedback email
address to comment or inquire about RAGE FURY MAXX* drivers and support for
the Microsoft* Windows* 2000 operating system.
I regret to inform you that our plan to provide a RAGE FURY MAXX* driver for
the Windows 2000 operating system cannot be completed. Due to issues with
enumerating the chip ID's, of the dual RAGE 128 PRO graphics chips, we are
unable to complete the driver for our RAGE FURY MAXX card.
ATI sincerely apologizes for promising a driver to you and then being
unable to complete it. This was an unforeseen technical issue during the
development of the Windows 2000 RAGE FURY MAXX drivers.
For those customers who wish to contact me directly to comment on this
situation, please email me at cservice@ati.com. I welcome your comments and
feedback.
Sincerely,
Rick Osborne
ATI Customer Service Manager"
Absent is mention of the refund customers are requesting in the wake of this announcement. All RAGE FURY MAXX owners who switched to Windows 2000 are urged to contact ATI at cservice@ati.com.
