Microsoft announced they're almost finished with an expansion pack for their Links 2001 golf simulation. The expansion will require Links 2001 to work which marks a change in their business plan as typically the next Links expansion pack would be known as Links 2002 and would be a stand alone product. Mythos Games (no relation to Great Cthulhu) shattered the hopes and dreams of X-Com fans everywhere (Mythos developed X-Com) by announcing that their upcoming strategy opus Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge was being canceled because of lack of interest on the part of their European publisher. Bethesda Softworks, who was to release it stateside, had no comment at this time but there may be hope.

Electronic Arts apparently laid off 40% of its developer workforce (that's a rumor, folks) but they apparently really did cancel the Quake III engine powered James Bond PC game The World is Not Enough. A game, which promised to feature a Denise Richards who could act, and more exploding barrels than even the film featured! Also, a sequel to the obscure critical darling underwater sub-combat Archimedian Dynasty was announced. It'll be called Aquanox and it'll give everyone that underwater action combat they crave. Despite being number three, out of three, fantasy role-playing massively multiplayer online games Microsoft has commissioned Turbine to make a sequel to Asheron's Call. Apparently Black and White has been finished and just might be gold even as you read this.

Raven announced they are finishing up their Star Trek: Elite Force expansion pack. It promises to remain true to its predecessor: very little single player value offered. Interplay announced that the Baldur's Gate II expansion, coming this summer, will be subtitled The Throne of Bhaal... oooh! Chilling! Also Terminal Reality announced 4X4 Evolution 2 for the PC and Xbox, prompting me to start planning my next religious joke (the last one I did still cracks me up).... And finally, LucasArt s announced a new real-time strategy Star Wars game called Star Wars: Battlegrounds is in development... rest easy though, Ensemble (Age of Empires) is doing the honors this time, there's no reason to expect a Force Commander II here.
