This week we have Madden Playoff predictions, more violent news, “tiny joysticks” and the ever-popular PCData info for November.

Game Quote of the Week: “Criticism is the refuge of those without the talent and ability to create art themselves!” ~ Ms. Wagner, No One Lives Forever

The IGDA, the association formerly known as the CGDA, formerly known as Prince, has clunked their collective heads together and formed a committee on gaming violence.

The IGDA (Interactive Game Developers Association) Violence Committee will be charged with helping increase awareness of the IDSA (Interactive Digital Software Association) and their ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) ratings on violence, to help parents make informed choices PDQ (Pretty Darn Quick). [In the interest of accuracy the CGDA, mentioned above, stands for Computer Games Developers Association.]

The committee will be made up of representatives from 3DO, EA, LucasArts, Konami and a few others. Also in attendance was media studies professor Dr. Henry Jenkins of MIT, Hawkman, Reverend Duke Nukem and President Elect Diablo. "We believe in age-appropriate marketing and we support the ratings system and open lines of communication," said Justin Chin, president, Infinite Machine, while standing near the eviscerated corpse of the PC version of New Legends. "However, we are not here to debate whether violent games result in violent behavior. The committee came together to work on building awareness and creating an overall understanding of the issues."

“You are all going to burn in hell when I appoint my brother Baal to Attorney General,” President Elect Diablo stated randomly. “Oh, go get some,” yawned Rev. Nukem, pointing toward the exit.

"It is critical that developers take artistic responsibility for the content they create," said Richard Hilleman, vice president in charge of production for Electronic Arts, while flanked by a bloody knife-wielding child named Alice. "The IGDA's Violence Committee will work to help developers understand what they can do to address this issue conscientiously."
