As fans avidly delve into the wonder, genius and glory of John Romero's anticipated frog and giant mosquito killing simulator Daikatana, and critics dip their quill pens in foul bile and poison in anticipation of the full version, we at Beatdown would like to be first in reminding you all that "King of all Media" (pictured below) John Romero, has already announced his next project. In 1998 he announced that Daikatana 2 would use the Unreal engine! Sounds great to us. Expect this game in 2004 or sometime after Hell unfreezes over again.

Creature Labs, the company behind those little life-simulators called Creatures 1-3, has taken a break from its deep seated resentment over the success of the Sims to announce it will be making a game based on the Sea-Monkeys, those popular brine shrimps you can buy in a comic book ad. Sea-Monkey Marina will be the title --though SimSea Monkey would probably sell better-- and it is set for release late this year.

Fox Interactive has announced that its going to cancel its Fox Sports line, which comes as no surprise to people who actually bought the few horrible Fox Sports games released last year. "NHL Championship 2000 was a major disappointment to fans of the grand old sport of felony assault," quipped longtime Hockey fan Brent Tard.

According to Fox representatives the cancellations are due to "the strain on production resources sports games impose." Beatdown would like to agree with this statement. It is remarkable the strain actually making games imposes on your resources. Sometimes the best way to make money is to simply not spend it.

According to Fox's Vice President Dave Neubecker it was the under-performance of the Fox Sports brand name that prompted this decision. "Unlike mainstream games, sports fans don't respond to the brand name." Yes, of course, fans didn't buy your bad sports games not because they were bad, its because they don't respond to brand names. Of course! Quick someone tell EA Sports that....
