I didn't watch it myself (West Wing, baby) but Drew Carrey apparently used Sims-like thought bubbles on the season debut of his show. Maxis told Daily Radar that the reason for this homage was due to the fact that Carrey is a big fan of the game. Sources told the Maxis developers that Carrey had PCs brought to the set so cast members could play with the game between takes. Knowing Mr. Drew Carrey, he's downloaded the nude patch/skins and everything.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword, in fact, this very column is based on that notion. But is the keyboard mightier than the AK-47 with silencer and night scope? Hitman: Codename 47 found out this past weekend the hard way as it got nailed by an EBWorld flunkie and went down for the count.
Here's what happened: a small number of fans (38 or so) preordered Hitman from EBWorld. Some guy at EBWorld entered in the wrong code, which basically made it look like Hitman had been canceled out of the system. Canceled. Whacked. Rubbed out. Ka-put. So EBWorld sent out letters to all pre-orderers saying the game was gone (whacked, rubbed out) and wasn't coming back. Saying it was sleeping with the fishes, pushing up the daisies, joining the choir invisible, and had hit the big recycle bin in the sky….
Since roughly 80% of these customers are game website editors, the rumors of its death became exaggerated. They say there's no such thing as bad press, in fact, this very column is based on that notion, this mistake only serves to make more people aware of Hitman: Codename 47, the not-so-canceled game, and that is probably a good thing for Eidos.
