Brown University and a company called Technology House have created the world's largest Tetris game. Really. No joke. It takes a PC running Linux, eleven circuit boards and over 10,000 Christmas lights to transform the regular fourteen-story Sciences Library into a game that is probably best played on a tiny Gameboy. Still, this game can be seen for miles and miles and will be played for at least a week so they can beat the Guinness World Record or something. Since it started on April 14th, 2000 and its still running according to their webcam, congratulations are in order. Call me when they can play Quake on that building, then they'll have something.

The Hollywood rumor says that Rainbow Six is tapped for the movie treatment. Yeah, at first it seems like it would be yet another Super Mario, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc., weak game to film conversion until you reflect that there is a series of Tom Clancy novels turned movies, most of which prominently featured Harrison Ford running. And then you think about the fact that Rainbow's own star characters Mike Clarke and Ding Chavez appeared in some of movies (Clear and Present Danger spring to mind). Not to mention that Rainbow Six, which deals with an international anti-terrorist force, would probably make a better action movie than most. And that the games are huge sellers, probably the top selling hardcore "simulation-style" games ever made. I'm psyched already! I can even imagine Ricky Martin performing a pop/dance hit called "Tango Down.". O.K., now I don't feel so good --, Swofford? Pass that Pepto.

3D Realms president George Broussard has announced that Duke Nukem Forever (a game title that has turned into self-describing prophecy) won't be shown at E3 this year. "We (3DRealms) do not believe including DNF in the E3 dog and pony show will benefit our goal with the game, which quite simply is to surprise the player with unexpected content and gameplay,", said Broussard. Naturally, one hopes they mean real innovations aside from grab the key and find the door. "E3 can be a great spoiler of game content and we believe this to be the case for DNF if we show it there." This is probably true; the last thing you want is positive buzz about your game when it's basically nowhere near completed.
