Liar, Liar, Pants on...
Talk about your brilliant and heartwarming stories... Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh developed an ingenious little system for wheelchair-bound people to exercise while playing action video games. Developed by Dr. Rory Cooper and Doctoral Candidate Thomas O'Connor the system has been dubbed "Gamewheels."
Here's how it works: portable rollers go in front of the computer and underneath the wheelchair. The rollers tell the computer the relative speed and position of the wheelchair and it all translates to the computer's mouse port.
"The wheelchair users reported that they were so involved with playing the video game using Gamewheels that they forgot they were exercising," claimed O'Connor.
Not only is this great news for the disabled and wheelchair bound, particularly kids getting used to a disability, I'm tempted to look for one once they get manufactured, just to slim down my own flabby body.
