Fox has officially announced that Monolith, the company responsible for such gaming atrocities as Shogo: MAD and Blood 2, will be making the sequel to Aliens vs. Predator. Why they didn't go ahead with the maker of the first game, Rebellion, is beyond me. Rebellion did a fine job with the franchise, it was Producer Dave Stalker and Fox who allegedly green lit that appalling save system.

Monolith is excited to be working on this game and they plan on using the most advanced iteration of their dirt-cheap (compared to Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament) graphics engine. Muscle-bound Monolith CEO Jason Hall claimed: "The new enhancements will allow gamers unprecedented immersion into the AVP universe." Which is industry speak for not saying anything at all. Man, don't they realize how obvious it is that Jason Hall didn't actually say this? When you have your PR flak write the quote at least try to hide the fact please.

The man with the world's most patriotic name, American McGee, is apparently going to bring his twisted Alice in Wonderland game concept to Hollywood. American McGee's Alice is a coming first-person romp in a darker and much more twisted world of Wonderland.

FGNOnline reports that EA and/or McGee have already signed with Miramax Studios and American will act as director or co-producer. I wonder if I could get a movie deal based on some cool artwork and a rather obvious concept? Let's hope this film follows in the grand video game to movie tradition set by such masterpieces as Wing Commander, Super Mario Brothers and Street Fighter: The Movie.
