In a baffling decision Red Storm Entertainment announced that it is letting Zombie Studios make an expansion pack to the popular Rainbow Six franchise. Zombie, creator of the awful Spec Ops series of tactical shooters, will create mission content for Rainbow Six: Covert Operations. This is sort of like letting the creators of Mortyr work on levels for the next Half-Life installment. A company called Magic Lantern is going to provide all the informational content as this will be both a game expansion and an informational resource into the world of counter-terrorism.
EA and Maxis announced recently that they've shipped over one million units of their odd little bisexuality simulator The SIMs. This means a huge number of people are sitting around making the Newbies tickle the Goths and walling up digital incarnations of their enemies. Perhaps coincidentally, Toys'R'Us is celebrating Barbie this week, hey it is a similar gameplay style is it not?
Dr. Derek Smart announced that he is planning to unleash an online version of the upcoming Battlecruiser Millenium space simulator called Galcom Command Online. It'll be a pay-to-play version of the Battlecruiser universe allowing gamers to do pretty much whatever they want, from dogfighting to diplomacy. This marks a radical departure for Dr. Smart whose last online multiplayer venture was generally known as "Getting Smacked Around Like a Bitch on Usenet."
Apparently the man responsible for giving John William's beloved Star Wars score the block-rocking Fatboy Slim remix treatment in Star Wars: Force Commander, has died under mysterious and suspicious circumstances.
"He was just standing there, listening to Meco's Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk album from the late 70's, one of his 'inspirations,' when he clutched his throat and fell to the studio floor," said witness Shawn Strand. A source close to LucasArts commented on the tragedy, "Perhaps he found his own lack of respect disturbing?"
