While Daikatana was bad, Mortyr was just utterly plain and unremarkable and mind numbingly dull. The designers created one or two impressive locations but their design skills clearly didn't stretch to making interesting puzzles as time after time Mortyr hit you with a “find blue key to open blue door” puzzle. Maybe their research into Nazi Germany (where it was set) and good game design was limited to playing Wolfenstein 3D. The only way to complete the game was to switch your brain off and wander through the level on auto pilot which, let's face it, is no fun at all. I cannot think of a single redeeming feature of Mortyr – the game offered nothing new and what it did offer other games had done before and better. The gameplay was barely more interesting than Wolfenstein 3D and, let's face it, when you can't improve on a first person shooter that's almost 9 years old that's pretty damn poor.

  • The odd pretty level

  • Find key, open door, repeat ad nauseum
  • Dull, dull and dull
