Sharky Games: So is that the difference between another game coming out, Blade, which Rune has been compared to, and Rune? That the two stories come from opposite sides of the mountain?
Timothy Gerritsen: Not really, theirs is more traditional high fantasy, Tolkien-esque, with orcs, what D&D players expect out of a fantasy game. Our game is really more action based on historical sources and Blade is more RPG based on fantastic sources. The games have some similarities, but at its core level, ours is an action game where you get to carry a big axe, where [Blade] is more of an adventure game where you build up a character. Ours is more of a story and theirs is more about, in a Diablo-esque sort of way, building. The story is there, but it really is more about “me” acquiring cooler stuff. And our game is like, what is going on, what is this thing that is happening to me?!
Sharky Games: Would you consider this as a thinking person's action adventure?
Timothy Gerritsen: Time will have to tell as to how the game is received. We certainly poured some of the literature into the game, but whether it is a thinking person's action adventure or not is up to the audience to decide.
Sharky Games: How long has Rune been in production?
Timothy Gerritsen: Real production didn't start until March or April of last year. By the time we ship it will be about 18-19 months from contract signing to shipping. About 18 months of actual production.
Sharky Games: How would you think the game compares to something like Drakan from Psygnosis? It is a totally different game, but some of the gameplay elements are similar and probably the most comparable to what Rune will be.
