New Worlds? Old Ideas, more like. Yet again the Romulans, Federation and Klingons have found a reason to attack each other with the usual phasers and photon torpedoes. However, rather than the interesting assortment of distinctive space craft to be found in the other Star Trek strategy title, Star Trek: Armada, here you'll only find bland looking generic hover tanks. The only noticeable difference between, say, a Federation ship and a Klingon one is that the Klingon ones are green instead of white. This game is yet another title that continues the curse of the Star Trek games, and it's so basic and uninspired that the Star Trek license almost seems like it was slapped on to a horribly basic RTS to try and make it sell a few more copies (bringing the sales figures into double digits maybe). If ever there were a title that tried to make a quick buck from a licensed property, this is it, but then very few Star Trek titles can be accused of having done otherwise.

The gameplay was about as interesting as Thursday night shopping and the graphics were no better thanks to the dull landscapes and uninspired vehicle designs. After this and many other dire Star Trek games it's a relief that we have finally seen some decent ones such as Armada and Elite Force. Let's hope they've raised the bar and made publishers realise that a well made game based on a licensed property will sell better than a poorly made one.
