Since the last games guide appeared, Force Commander unfortunately hasn't miraculously gotten any better. It still involves the same terrible Star Wars music brutalisation, flawed gameplay and multiplayer that's more unbalanced than a con man's account books. Thankfully, nothing else has appeared to stink up the RTS scene further, although the horrid Dominion from Ion Storm can still be found hidden away in the odd corner of a games store. Resist impulse buying it; it's even worse than the terrible screenshots on the box might suggest.

RTS: The Facts
While some would class it as more of an RPG, in Deus Ex you frequently get to shoot, and it's played from a first person perspective, so in my book it sits in the FPS category. Of course, you also get to do hacking, backstabbing, lock picking, bypassing of electrical systems or whatever it takes to complete the mission. While Andrew "Beatdown" Bub wasn't so keen on it, I was hugely impressed with Deus Ex to say the least. You can approach nearly all the problems in the game in a number of ways, so if you can't find the key to a door you can either blow it up with some explosives, pick the lock, or find another way in; and that's a very simple example of things indeed. The story is also fantastic, and every one of its conspiracy-loaded twists and turns serves only to draw you deeper into the game. 'Tis top stuff, to say the least.
