Fittingly, Dogs of War was an utter dog of a game. Don't let the reasonably pretty eye candy fool you, beneath its shiny surface lay a shallow and ultimately unsatisfying game. As in New Worlds there was no option to save the game half way through, but then playing as either side the game proved so short that you'd end up finishing a mission before you got to wishing for a mid-game save feature. The control system was also badly thought out but then even if it was actually usable and intuitive it's unlikely to have made the game much better. The game had one potential saving grace – Craig Charles, a.k.a. Lister from the BBC comedy series “Red Dwarf,” did some voice acting for the title but it added absolutely nothing to the game. While it wasn't quite the terrible, utterly generic RTS that New Worlds was, the few interesting ideas that it did offer didn't make the game any better. As in the game Ground Control, there was no resource gathering. Instead, you bought troops at the start of the mission and had to make do with them for the rest of the scenario. However, for most of the missions this option was eschewed and you instead started the mission with a selection of units that were pre-chosen. In fact, so many of the missions offered no choice of troops that it almost seems like a pointless inclusion. Worst of all the title offered next to no enemy AI whatsoever, instead using scripting to give the impression that there was some AI behind the enemy movement when there plainly was none evident.
