We start with the titles that are truly scraping the bottom of the barrel, and no RTS title this year deserves that description more than Star Trek: New Worlds. Yet again we have another pitiful Star Trek game continuing what some have called a “curse” on all Star Trek games, although with the release of Raven's quality title Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, it now looks like past developers of Star Trek titles weren't cursed, they were just being lazy in an attempt to earn some quick cash by using the Trek name. New Worlds is, it seems, no exception.
Gameplay was nothing short of agonizing. Ice ages have arrived faster than it took for a group of tanks in New Worlds to move half way across the map, and by the time they got there you'd probably realise that you sent the wrong group to deal with the enemy since all the vehicles look so utterly similar. Even when you compare vehicles between races you'll find that the only noticeable difference, especially when zoomed out, is that Klingons were green and Federation vehicles were white. Even worse, to get these vehicles you had to build a vehicle yard and then slap on countless upgrades to be able to build anything even remotely useful in combat. As the final insult, you couldn't even save during games, forcing you to start each mind-numbing mission from scratch if you failed it. Given the choice between playing this game or havingroot canal surgery, I'd probably find it a damn difficult decision.
