It's October and games releases are slowly beginning to pick up. While we aren't quite at that time of year where we're swamped by a deluge of good and bad games alike (also known as Christmas time) publishers are nonetheless slowly releasing a number of quality titles worth your attention. Of course, walking into your local games store, wallet at the ready, you'll want to know which games are worth your hard-earned dough. Well, I happen to have a few suggestions.
This month saw relatively few good RTS games released -- OK, so it saw a total of two released, one of which was Amazons and Aliens (which I'm not going near, based on principle). This month Dark Reign 2 still comes highly recommended, possibly even more so this time round due to the constant stream of add-ons that the developers continue to release. You can get mini add-ons that remove all resources, let you play both sides at once or even fight the enemy with only turrets and self destructing collectors! Pandemic have also been releasing new multiplayer maps regularly so it should take you a long while to get bored with this classy 3D RTS if you're willing to give the multiplayer a go after you complete the satisfying single player missions.
Dark Reign 2 / Starcraft
Starcraft is, of course, still recommended, and if you're not convinced of its quality after I've now mentioned it for three months in succession now, then only the demo will convince you, so pick up the PC or Mac version pronto. While other games have included three races (such as the little noticed KKND 2) rather than the usual two, none have managed to make them so unique and original. It looks like it'll take Warcraft III to knock Starcraft of its throne, but until then, unless you really can't stand real time strategy games, give this a go if you're one of the few gamers who have yet to do so.
