Pandemic Studios aren't the only RTS developers to have release new content for their game after it hits the shelves. The Ensemble Studios site offers a few new maps for The Conquerors, their recently released expansion to the excellent Age of Kings, although Ensemble offer no where near as many new maps as are available for Dark Reign 2. If you prefer battering rams, archers and knights over automated defence turrets and Terran Marines, Age of Kings and The Conquerors add-on should keep you happy until Empire Earth from Stainless Steel Studios arrives in all its 3D splendour.
Age of Kings / Homeworld
Homeworld: Cataclysm, the sort-of-equel-not-a-sequel to the original Homeworld, is now available and it seems like a worthy successor to the first Homeworld. It is visually more impressive than the original (which wasn't short of eye candy to begin with) and now includes individual unit voices as well as a new and twisting story line. Fans of the previous title will love it but if you couldn't get used to the fully 3D RTS controls of the original you may want to give it a miss. If you don't fall into either of the above categories but still love RTS games, check out what you're missing, you might just like it. Look for a review of Homeworld: Cataclysm on SharkyGames.com shortly.
Thankfully, this month we were spared any new shoddy RTS releases. Both Force Commander and Dominion are now distant memories and should have long descended from store shelves into the bargain bin, and hopefully from there into the waste bin. We can only hope.
