While it's been knocked off the top spot by Red Alert 2 (surprise surprise) Baldur's Gate II is still one of the best RPGs ever and it's unlikely to be surpassed until Bioware release their next RPG. The voice acting, gameplay, story and overall presentation are just superb and, even better, it somehow comes on less CDs than the original title despite being a larger game! Will wonders never cease?
If you've somehow found the time to devote every minute of the past few weeks to Baldur's Gate II and finished the whole game (I'm sure there are some who have) then Black Isle ‘s other offerings, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale are worthy of your attention. While they're not quite as excellent as Baldur's Gate II they're both top quality RPGs in their own right.
Nobody bought Demise: Rise of the Ku'Tan and this many months after its release it's unlikely to shift any more copies, which is probably a good thing. Another good thing though is that the next project from Artefact Entertainment, Horizons: Empires of Istaria, is looking a little more interesting and original, and certainly much prettier. Am I willing to give the developers a second chance after the mind numbing gameplay of Demise? —er, maybe. Time will tell if it deserves that second chance.
