GorkaMorka is a rather strange breed of game. It is the first combat racing RPG for the PC (and Dreamcast system). Combat racing RPG... it even sounds weird! Based on the popular table-top war game by Games Workshop, GorkaMorka takes the Ork warriors of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and spins them off into a whole new gaming experience: high-action combat racing with underlying role-playing elements.

Recently we had the opportunity to speak with GorkaMorka Producer Andy Kieran to find out more about this interesting combat racing RPG.

SharkyExtreme: GorkaMorka is an interactive combat racing RPG for the PC. What exactly is an "interactive combat racing RPG"? Isn't that a rather strange genre mix?

Andy Kieran: GorkaMorka is at heart a racing game with combat elements. It is also an RPG in the sense that you are working towards a goal (if that is how you choose to play) and you are constantly improving your vehicle and orks as you progress. It's interactive because of the multiplayer options that the Dreamcast network play allows. Add them all together and you get quite a strange breed indeed.

SharkyExtreme: How much of the RPG element is in the game? Will there be any character creation, NPCs or a storyline/plot?

Andy Kieran: The RPG element we are focusing on is allowing the player to earn money by successfully racing and fighting. We allow the player full control over how to upgrade the "gang" with the limited resources available. As a player you will have to decide if you want to upgrade your Weapons, Armor, Engine, Chassis, Driver, Gunner or Mekboy (an Ork Mechanic). The decisions you make will affect your gameplay directly, giving you certain advantages as well as disadvantages in the races.

SharkyExtreme: Can you tell us a bit about the futuristic world in which the game takes place?

Andy Kieran: The game is set in the "GorkaMorka" world established by Games Workshop. We have focused the game itself on the "Mektown" portion of the Ork populations on this barren and desolate world. Basically, different "gangs" of Orks are in constant struggle for resources and the thrill of combat on a harsh and isolated world.
