Jason Hall: I can't think of a specific moment, but one things that makes me feel very proud is watching the LithTech Engine go from being an unknown, not taken seriously, "what? I should be afraid of Monolith," type technology, to it being the frontrunner in the engine licensing world and having major articles in all the mainstream gaming magazines about it.
That is pretty rewarding.
SharkyExtreme: With so many games out there, so many games having been done... how can a development team still manage to come off as being creative and provide gamers with something 'we haven't already seen'?
Jason Hall: I don't know. It's tough. Most of the time, developers accomplish this by using or implementing some new technology to "wow" the consumer. In general though, just about every game out there borrows something somewhere from some other game, and that is ok as long as the final game product is good fun!
SharkyExtreme: What is the hardest thing about your job?
Jason Hall: Being personally responsible for almost 120 different families' income stability. That is a large responsibility and obviously, many people have placed a lot of trust in me. I do not have much room for error. I take my tasks very seriously, and every decision weighs heavily upon my shoulders. I don't want to let everyone down. So far I haven't, but I won't rest on my laurels.
Living up to this responsibility is very hard, and many other people and companies have failed to last as long as Monolith has in this tough industry!
SharkyExtreme: Could you ever see yourself doing any other job?
Jason Hall: Absolutely. I'm happy just to be able to have a job. No big ego here. I'll take what I can get! :)
SharkyExtreme: If someone were to walk up to you and say 'You are now in charge of providing a happy solution for parents, children, retailers, and game companies in regards to the issue of gaming/entertainment and violence'... what would your solution be (or do you think that a solution to make the majority from all four groups happy is even possible)?
