1st Place – Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
This game mixes a fun time with outstanding control. It's perfect for playing when you just want to zone out for a few minutes.
2nd Place – Escape from Monkey Island
Guybrush in 3D! No series has been as consistently funny and silly as the Monkey Island series, and the fourth installment is no exception.
3rd Place – Nox
Nox combines a third person viewpoint with the pulse-pounding action of a first-person shooter to deliver a unique action-packed single-player adventure and mutli-player game. It has amazing art, strategy, adventure, and serious gibbing.
Best Console Title - Shenmue
Shenmue for the Dreamcast has the most amazingly detailed and interactive world of any game I have ever played. It also has an interesting plot, killer graphics, and a great fighting system.
1st Place – Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Rarely does a game come along that breaks typical conventions and styles and has the potential to change the direction of gaming. And this could be the first WWII title in years to garner interest beyond typical war games fans.
2nd Place – Escape from Monkey Island
Who says adventure gaming is dead? This game proves that a game doesn't have to be violent or quick-paced to be enjoyable. With Escape from Monkey Island solving every puzzle is like a unique victory.
3rd Place – Red Alert 2
It wasn't the best game but it lived up to the hype and provided hours of gameplay without a serious learning curve. That is enough to make it a favorite of mine for the year.
Best Console Title - Midnight Club
While it was a pretty typical racing simulation, the rendered versions of New York and London were excellent and I found it to be one of the better racing simulations set in an urban area.
