Last summer, the indie film world was turned upside down with the release of the Blair Witch Project, a pseudo-documentary that looked into the legends of a witch and other things haunting the woods of Burkettsville, Maryland, where the legends got the best of the characters in the movie. In time for Halloween, Blair Witch 2: will be hitting the theaters, and surrounding the release will be three volumes of Blair Witch titles for the PC.
While the amateur "film makers" wandered around the woods of Burkettsville, Coffin Rock is mentioned briefly in the film and now actually plays a bigger role in the second game, the “middle child” of the series. The Legend of Coffin Rock comes to life with Human Head Studio's adaptation which was made with the co-operation of the creators of the Blair Witch movie.
Coffin Rock combines both spooky and psychological elements in this tale while using the Nocturne engine with a few adaptations to make the gameplay more fun. The storyline takes place in 1886. A man wakes up in the woods of the Black Hills with amnesia and is cared for by a girl and her grandmother. When the girl goes missing, the man they call Lazarus realizes that the girl is the key to remembering who he is. All the while, Lazarus has flashbacks to Civil War era 1863 when he lead a force of troops into the very same woods to hunt down opposing soldiers, and lost his entire unit in the process.
Human Head studios has poured their hearts into this project, and pulled off a convincing and gripping tale that will have gamers at the edge of their desk chairs and gripping the mouse to take on more action all at the same time. Sharky Games had a chance to chat with Human Head's Timothy S. Gerritsen, the company's business director, and also the man who has put a lot of energy into Coffin Rock and also into the company's other upcoming title, Rune.
