The D3D powered 3D engine was fairly fluid although the system requirements look to be rather heavy. A 3D accelerator IS required. On the AMD K6-2 400MHz machine with an nVidia TNT, playing the game at a 640x480 resolution was acceptable. But for higher resolutions a Voodoo2 SLI rig would be preferential. Although optimization for 3Dnow! was in effect, the optimal system would be a Pentium II 400MHz, which will then enable you to try out the 32-bit color depth modes, which looked very sharp indeed. Voodoo3s are also catered for, as a 1600x1200 option was available in the video setup options.

At first glance, the game might well look like an ordinary 3D first person shooter and initially playing the game on foot seemed like the best thing to do, sniping, strafing and all the other tricks of the trade made me feel right at home. And although I wasn't too keen to get in a car and drive around, once I'd gotten used to the idea I enjoyed that element of Redline immensely. We'll have a full review for you shortly so stay tuned…
