i recently downloaded the 1.25 point release for quake 3. it seems like half the servers that i go to it trys to download a file called baseq3/pak4.pk3. but it dosent download it just says downloading 0 of 0 and the last zero changes back a forth between a 0 and a -1. ive tried uninstalling quake a reinstalling it with the 1.17 then the 1.25 releases. thanx for any help.

I am just using 1.17 right now. I think 1.25 is still in beta and most of the mods dont work with 1.25.

Me 2. I'm using what ever the servers i play on are using which is 1.17.

Why play Quake 3 when you can play the much better Unreal Tournament. Quake 3 can't even be compared to UT. Stop playing Quake 3, play UT! It's the best game

i cant use release 1.17 because i am using windows 2000. there is some kind of driver issue with win 2000 and quake 3 with the point release 1.17, u cant turn the brightness up. this is why i am using 1.25 and believe me i would much rather use 1.17.

Why do you think it's so popular, why did it get so great reviews ? In most of the Reviews, they thought UT was the best game.

I perfer multi-player, on-line solitare, very exicting stuff.

Set "ignorehwgamma "1"" in your config file, that'll give you your brightness back. I had the same prob with Win2K.

The only reason I play UT anymore is because of Tactical Ops. That mod just rocks, it's CounterStrike on steroids. I hardly ever play Quake3 anymore. Tribes is still fun, but I'm really looking forward to Tribes 2.

Matter of opinion. Tribes has probably the best netcode. Very playable on a 56k modem. I will admit, Tribes isnt for the average gamer becuase its a ton more advanced then your typical online game.

I gave Q3 a decent chance. I played it hardcore for a while, was in the OGL, teamplay.net etc. But I never really enjoyed it like I did Q2. I went back to Q2 this week and played a few and oh MAN was it fun! hehe, I swear, the playcontrol in Q2 was so refined...so smooth. I don't like how Q3 took away the double jump and all that neato stuff.

And in my opinion UT is too slow. The character simply moves slowly, which is a majo drag if you ask me. I *am* a huge fan of the flak cannon, but other than that the gameplay is just too slow.
