Birthday is comming up and I'm really hard to buy for. Maybe it's because I don't have a lot of hobbies outside of computers.Anyway I've setteled on something that I haven't had for quiet a while for my PC: A decent First Person Shooter. Question is, which one? I am not interested in single player. I'm looking for something with a great multiplayer mode (wide varity of levels, quiet a few players in the levels, level creator/editor if possible) I've heard a lot of good things about Halflife, Counter Strike and Unreal Tournment but I've never played any of them. Any comments would be great!

I would go with Counter-Strike or Tribes 2. I don't play Counter-Strike anymore, but I played it for the longest time, it was alot of fun, and it's multiplayer only. Right now, Counter-Strike is the most played online FPS. Gamespy stats usually has 20,000 people playing CS where 3000 are playing Quake 3, and thats definatly not all of them. I've been playing Tribes 2 alot, it's quite fun, with upto 64+ players per a game. As long as you have a decent PC, with a Geforce Chipset you should be able to run Tribes 2.

Maybe you can get a few.Half Life TFC addition (comes with TFC) costs about $9.99, which you then can dowload mods like counter_strike, Firearms, oz, Day_of_Defeat, ect. Unreal Tournment GOTY addition (comes with a few different mods) costs anywhere from $15 or less. Tribes 2 wouldn't be a bad choice but it doesn't sound like your much into gaming so your system might be able to handle it.

The thing is, my PC isn't Because of lack of money, I haven't been able to get a new computer for quiet some time. Up until now most of my games (at least the ones worth playing) were on my N64. BUT...Now that a brand-spankin' new computer is in my future, I thought I'd start looking at some games. (I didn't before because I always ended up getting my hopes up.)

Assuming you are getting a new PC ie 800Mhz or above, then there are three games you must play:Half Life, Deus ex, Unreal Tournament. Only the last is strictly multiplayer only; however HL remains an awesome SP experience and you can cheaply add Counter Strike. Deus Ex, for me, is not far behind - despite the rather unique MP component (not your usual 'run and gun' and it has to be patched in) it is also another brilliant, ultra-immersive SP experience.

If as you say [QUOTE]The thing is, my PC isn't Because of lack of money, I haven't been able to get a new computer for quiet some time.[QUOTE]Then you may have speed issues with UT. TFC/Halflife wouldnt be as much of a problem. I dont know about Deus Ex. If you want to play something now though, Halflife would be a good start!

Wait to get deus ex untill you get the new computer, it is down to 20$ now, so it should be a steal soon. But it runs slow on my Athlon classic 800, with 128 megs of pc 133 ram, and a tnt2pro, at mostly high detail and 1024X800

You guys got it all wrong, UT is by far the best, it's non-stop action. CS is just too boring for me, I spend more time in free look mode cause I like to be in the middle of the action.

Multiplayer: Tribes 2, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Half-Life (gotta love those mods, Counter-Strike is my favourite game! and some others like Serious Sam are good. I would get the HL Platinum Edition. It comes with HL, TF, HL Op Forces, CounterStike, and several other mods.
